Donated Items Keep on Giving

Remodeling, cleaning, downsizing or just getting organized this spring? Whatever your project, don’t let the items you no longer need end up in your local landfill. Donating, gently-used clothing, housewares, toys, books and furniture to non-profit organizations benefits the needy, provides revenue sources for the charity and gives a tax deduction to the donor.

Non-profits request that household items be useable, including working appliances and computers and clean furniture in good condition. Toys or other items that have been recalled for defects or lead paint should be returned to place of purchase or disposed of properly.

            The Donation Guide makes it easy to give gently-used personal and household items a second life.  The list offers convenient drop-off and pick-up options for donating goods.

Organizations like Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore offer unique outlets for discards.  In addition to appliances and furniture, ReStore picks up remodeling materials in good condition, including light fixtures, sinks, flooring and roofing supplies.
