Some like this hot weather – Wedelia texana!

CoverA little water-sipper of a plant, Wedelia texana proves that—even in the middle of a Texas summer—gardeners can have their cake and eat it too! After many spring flowers and gardeners have languished from the heat, this easy-care shrub continues to bloom in an airy bouquet of sweet daisy-like flowers through summer and into fall.

May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful.

Soil Requirements: Unparticular about soil, zexmenia only requires excellent drainage to thrive.  Hold the water to keep it happy!

Where to Plant: For best bloom and to maintain a rounded shrubby habit, plant zexmenia in full sun.  True to its central and west Texas roots, the plant can handle reflected heat from a walkway, driveway or brick wall. Zexmenia is also well-adapted to partial shade, where it has a tendency to sprawl, making a pleasant groundcover.

Friendly Neighbors: Long-lived zexmenia adds life to any garden setting! Ample nectar attracts pollinators, including butterflies and honey bees. Like many members of the aster family, zexmenia is a larval host, selected by the bordered patch butterfly for egg laying.  Songbirds also dine on the seeds.
