A Township tradition becomes a family tradition…

International Walk to School month is a free, easy and fun way for kids to get active this October. Twelve elementary schools in The Woodlands Township are observing the annual tradition with scheduled walk days in October. Students are encouraged to walk, ride or scoot to and from school to kick-start healthy travel habits that can lead to good health for life!

Walking to school does not have to be school sponsored; it can just as easily be organized as a neighborhood activity. Families can organize a Walking School Bus, a carpool—without the car—with the added benefits of exercise and visits with friends and neighbors.

Important: Make sure there are a sufficient number of adults to supervise walkers. **Evaluate the route for safety and make your needs known to your school and The Woodlands Township.  Safer routes to some schools have already been included in the Pedestrian/Bicycle Master Plan.

Embrace the tradition and contribute to fewer vehicles around schools and fewer harmful emissions where children are breathing. Good for you, good for the air!
