Petals or Plastic: It’s Our Choice

Litter Blog Cover 2.pngSpring has arrived! Carolina jessamine vines are showering the pathways with their blooms, Mexican plum flowers are bursting out and litter is very visible in the greenbelts!

Become a superhero, practice the Keep America Beautiful mantra…

See Litter. Pick it up. (1)

Imagine if everyone just picked up one piece of litter each day. YOU can help The Woodlands Township make strides towards a litter-free community by joining the Earth Day GreenUP, a Great American Cleanup event on Saturday, March 25, 2017.

  • Choose one of 8 Village parks as your check-in location; you will be assigned a clean-up area in that Village.
  • Want to target a specific area? Let us know when you register!

Past participants have noticed that the lovely green spaces around the community conceal a significant amount of litter. When we become pedestrians, we get a different perspective. The landmark 2009 Keep American Beautiful study found that the majority of litter on roadways – 91%, or 46.6 billion pieces – is less than four inches and the most frequently counted littered items were tobacco products (38%), which were predominantly cigarette butts followed by paper (22%) and plastic (19%).
