Bears capture the imagination, fascinating both children and adults. Intelligent, shy and adaptable, black bears were once plentiful throughout the state. According to Dr. Comer, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department documents three to ten credible sightings of the Louisiana black bear in Texas each year. More common in our neighboring state, Louisiana black bears are a subspecies of the American black bear.
