Drain After the Rain: Help Prevent Mosquitoes

With recent heavy rains, The Woodlands Township urges everyone to check their yards for standing water. Mosquitoes can breed in as little as seven days, so it’s important to stay vigilant.

One common trouble spot is plant pot saucers. They hold just enough water for mosquitoes to lay eggs and can also lead to overwatering your plants. Instead, consider using pot feet to elevate your pots and protect decks and patios.

Make it a habit. Trash day is a great reminder to walk your yard and empty any containers holding water. Look for toys, tarps, pet bowls, or anything else that can collect rain. For birdbaths and rain barrels, use Bti Mosquito Dunks® to treat the water safely. These are harmless to birds, pets, children, and beneficial wildlife.

A few minutes each week can make a big difference in reducing mosquitoes around your home. For more information on how to prevent mosquitoes this summer, visit our Mosquito Education page with resources provided by The Woodlands Township.
