Green Leaders of Tomorrow: 2025 Environmental Services Volunteer Interns

As summer winds down, we’re celebrating two incredible volunteer interns who made an impact during their time with us, Rose and Grace. Whether supporting programs behind the scenes or helping residents connect with environmental resources, their work helped strengthen our mission and community.

Grace and Rose joined Environmental Services as volunteer interns for the month of June, during which they created educational resources and conducted community outreach alongside staff. In addition, these two talented students provided valuable insight on dynamic giveaways, upcycling projects, and Township-wide recycling initiatives. As part of this experiential learning opportunity, this year’s volunteer interns attended a tour of a drinking water treatment plant, created mock lesson plans, participated in guided litter audits, and conducted field research on pollinators and aquatic insects.

From sharing innovative ideas for our department to educating residents on sustainability initiatives, Grace and Rose have made lasting contributions to the Environmental Services team. Learn a bit more about these future green leaders below.

Grace Yuan

Grace is an incoming freshman at Rice University pursuing a degree in nanoengineering and business. Grace has been the volunteer coordinator for her school’s National Chinese Honor Society for the past two years, leading shifts for the Township, Interfaith, Henry’s Home, and more. She is passionate about environmentally based biopolymer research and reflects that “This internship showed me the value of not just science research but the importance of public outreach and environmental education within a community. I’m so grateful to have gotten this opportunity to help make The Woodlands a greener, more beautiful place!”
